To All The Kindergarten & College Mamas

It is time to face the music for so many mamas and daddys out there.  I have decided today to focus on the fact our babies are growing up and going forward with getting bigger (as we all want them to do).  This post is dedicated to all the parents who are sending their little ones off to big school for the first time.  This also is to all the parents who are sending their big kids off to the real big school (college) for the first time.

College & Kindergarten

College and Kindergarten - it is all one in the same.
Kindergarten... you took them to the school and dropped them off for the day.
You held your tears back and the sweetie pie a little tighter.
You felt the pangs of motherhood swell up inside you as you walked away from the 123 ABC classroom.
You sat in the parking lot and wiped away mascara tears as you cried - realizing - how fast your tiny baby grew up into a big school kid.

College -
you took your big, nearly full grown kid... who you suddenly see once again as that bubbly five year old to a big, massive school with pretty buildings and manicured gardens.
You moved them out of your house and into a small closet of a room.
You stifled your cries as bad allergy coughs and sized up the new roomie.
You felt the pangs of motherhood swell up inside you as you realized that this 18 year old child was no longer your kindergartner off their first day of elementary school.
My where did the years go?
Your teenager hugged you and thanked you for helping them move in
and you noticed that they held on a little longer than they have in ten years.
Down the steps and out the doors... one more goodbye.
Once again you sit in the parking lot and wipe away mascara tears as your once-upon-a-time-five-year-old-now-young-adult walks back into their new home.

College and Kindergarten so much alike it is scary.
Two times you have to brace yourself for the impact of the in-your-face-incredibly-fast growth of your bundle of joy.
The first time it is realizing the baby years have abruptly ended.
The second time realizing your baby is exiting childhood.
Two totally different times in our lives that bring forth a bit of the same experiences -
a new environment with new people and new ideas,
a new way to learn not led by mommy or daddy,
more freedom than they have ever had before.

Kindergarten and college hard times but beautiful times.
You will see your work as a good mama (or daddy) come to fruition.
You will pray a little harder than you ever found yourself doing before.
You may drink a little more wine than you allowed yourself before these times.
You will remain as scared for them as you were when they
had their first fever,
first at bat on the baseball team,
and went for that first drive alone.
Rest assured they will make it out with little to no bruising
all because they had a mama who cried mascara tears in a parking lot,
kitchen,
laundry room,
elevator,
and even while holding their hand so many times.

Please don't steal my work - I deserve credit for my stuff just like you deserve credit for your own stuff.
