Three Things Tuesday

Three Things Tuesday....

1.  Remodel talk.

OK it is all my husband and I talk about and it is draining!  I am excited about it and I know its taking a lot out of us but geesh we need a new discussion topic when in the car, at the table, texting, and after the kids go to bed!

2.  Finalizing paint colors.

Here I go talking about something that totally takes number one and throws it in garbage.  Ok I have my paint colors picked!!!!  That is exciting!

3.  Pumpkin carving.

I think we may just start gutting some orange beauties tonight.  Contemplating doing it after Little Man is asleep so the big girl can thoroughly enjoy both mom and dad without them having to chase the baby.

What three things are on your mind?

Three Things Tuesday!

There are three things on my mind today....

1.  House work schmouse work

I used to care about how my home looked.  I scrubbed the floor that was never going to look better.  I had the laundry put away.  I had the kitchen in good shape.  Yes all those sentences were in past tense.  It is for good reason thought....right?  Isn't it funny how now this house sees more traffic from strangers than ever and I don't give a crap about it?  Let them see it as its worst....in a few months it will be at its best....right?

2.  Military Funerals

My husband's grandpa was laid to rest yesterday.  He had fought in WWII so the funeral had some last military rights performed.  Of those included one was three shots.  The funeral was inside a mausoleum so we're surrounded by marble, concrete and granite.  Homeboy on the gun decided to fire it off at the door...needless to say I jumped about six feet out of my chair as I heard the kick back of the gun a mere 60 feet behind me.  Uncool guys....uncool.

3.  New boots

My birthday is a little over a month away and I'm thinking: hmm what do I want?
Boots.
New boots.
I need some new rain boots and some new cowgirl boots.  I just totally hate the price tag on the latter one.  The other day I looked at boots and found that the fashionable ones weren't too appealing to me for reasons that include:
a) I am not a biker nor do I want to be associated with anything motorcycle-ish.
b) I am not a tramp and tramp feet are well....not for me.
c) I love riding boots but whats the point if you continually forget to buy some leggings or skinny fit jeans?

So there are my three. I'll see ya'll tomorrow.

Three Things Tuesday!

And it is time for another edition of Three Things Tuesday!

1.  I'm LOVIN' It!

What is the it?  It isn't McDonald's!  Its......FALL!  Oh my goodness guys the weather is pretty much on target for perfect this week!  I have thoroughly enjoyed coming home from work and going outside to feed my chickens and mess in the yard and clean out my car.  Seriously....love this season!

On Sunday, when fall officially birthed itself for 2013, I even put some blogs together while sitting on my porch.  How ahhhh-mazing is that?  Very!

The only thing that bums me out is how badly I am wanting coffee but how I am steering clear of it.  I have to have a splash of coffee with my cream and right now cream is out of the picture for this girl.

Bah humbug.

2.  Caffeine made me do it....but not right now.

As mentioned above I really want a cup of coffee.  I really want to use my Keurig.  I really want to hit up Dunkin Donuts before work.  But I'm not.  Since my dairy incident I'm like the helicopter parent of my gut.  Is that dairy six miles away?  STEER IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!  Seriously, I'm losing it.

I told myself to get some nondairy creamer and have at it.  Have I yet?  Negative.

I wonder if DD has nondairy creamer?  Hmm.  Anyone?

Is this not hilarious?  http://www.themetapicture.com

3.  Since I'm admitting to losing my brain....

I have decided to take my grandmother, who doesn't know me, who has dementia out to dinner on Thursday.  Um yeah.  So here is the back-story on that:  She doesn't cook (thank God) and she likes to go out (understandable).  Most evenings my mom finds her dressed up and ready to go out for dinner.  My extended family isn't known for going out every night for a meal.  I have heard from my aunt, uncle, and mother about how much she wants to go out to eat all the time.  I decided I would take her out.  Here's the deal:  I can understand how going crazy and being in the house 24/7 can make for a disaster (Alzheimer's or no Alzheimer's) so why not take her with me when I take my girl to dance on Thursday.

We'll have an hour give or take five minutes to grab a bite to eat.  No biggie right?  (Just so you know I hear you saying wrong and I see you rolling your eyes and I also saw that smirk...)  Ok so I know this will be challenging.  We'll have a time limit and that can be bad news but hey she's getting out of her house.

There are my three things.  What are yours?

T3

1.  Feeling like a blimp.

Admitting this:  Lately, I have felt like a total blimp.  I know I am not one.  However, I've been feeling so out of it and yuck-o!  I really want to add in some exercise again its just figuring out when I can with my schedule.  New mission - yep!  (Oh and my gym membership is a thing of the past it didn't fit the budget anymore so expect some blog on that later...)

2.  PTA,O, pick a vowel.

I know PTO or A (or whatever vowel they had slid on the end of the acronym now) is optional for people to attend.  However, after living with a teacher for ya know most of my life at this point, I feel the need to go.  Therefore, I will be attending my first PTO/A meeting as a parent tonight.  That is so odd.  I feel really old now.  I remember going when I was a student and I was so bored.  I imagine the bored will be gone now that I understand budgets and all that jazz.  I'll admit the only reason we're really going is because it is curriculum night in the classrooms and the book fair is going on.

Sick of everything - the retro style, the tons of mess, the horrible floor, the weird window....sick sick sick.

3.  This kitchen

I'm so damn over it!  I know it is only a matter of a few weeks now and it will be gutted and made new but good gravy ya'll!  The kitchen is so useless right now to me.  I cannot even tell you how much of a headache it has made my life in the past month. It serves as the kitchen but also the office, homework room, creativity room, etc.  It is just ravaged.  I know a lot of bloggers like to make you think their lives are perfect and everything is sunshine and tulips but there above are the honest to God pictures of the current state of my kitchen.  See Brownie gives you honest but parts sold separately. Disclaimer:  Thank you Lord for a kitchen that I am able to cook in.  I'm not ungrateful I just am over the whole set up of it.  Amen.

Three Things Tuesday!

Ahhh Tuesday....why is it Tuesday falls by the wayside?  We stress over Mondays, we deem Wednesday our half way mark, Thursdays are Thirsty, and Fridays are the golden day.  Poor Tuesday - it gets nothing.  It is like the lost day...the day we just mindlessly autopilot through.  Well dear Tuesday you are my delightful Three Things Tuesday and here we go.

1.  Chocolate Pumpkin Muffins.

If you need a good breakfast that is fast and different then look no further than Hungry Girl's fabulous take on the chocolate muffin.  My gahhhh they are delish!  We had these Monday for breakfast.  Two ingredients and twenty minutes in the oven - can you complain about that?  No way!

{Here's the recipe}

She won a door prize!

At first she was terrified of getting up there to bowl but she warmed right up.

Jared is a future professional.

2.  Bowling Fun.

Locally two bowling alleys offered a fantastic deal.  Kids get 3 hours of bowling PLUS shoe rental for $3.50.  I like to bowl - though I suck at it.  I never get to go because babies tend to not be very fond of bowling alleys.  I had signed my chick up for the Free Summer Bowling program but we never had a chance to take advantage of it.  Last week when I got the summer bowling special promo I knew I needed to take advantage of it.  I talked to my friend Jen who has a bowling superstar on her hands (her six year old son Jared) and we decided to take our kids on Monday.  It was the perfect bowling day with rain coming on down here in the rain forest of North Carolina.  Fun times.

3.  My baby is turning one!

This is a redundancy you should expect this week.  I am finding it hard to believe my little baby boy is turning one year old already.  One year ago this week I was prepping for the hospital.  My induction was set for Friday, August 24th at 7am.  I'm just reminicising over the experience I guess.  My second pregnancy was a hot mess and I was finally put in good hands for the last week of it.  I cannot express (still to this day) the remarkable help and care I received from a phenomenal nurse, fantastic midwife, and out of this world doctor.  Expect to see a lot of pictures of the Little Man this week.  {Photo by Nicole Koontz Photography}

Three Things Tuesday

Here are three things that are burning my brain this Tuesday.  If you want to tap in please do!  The comments section loves it when you make your mark!

1.  This dad blame yard sale.

(Dad-blame is a totally Southern phrase its the cousin to dag gone, dog gone, and the nicer way to say damned)

I am so ready for this thing to be over.  I'm currently stressing over just how I will lay everything out.  I needed a rack for clothing to hang out and went to Facebook in hopes to have friend who would let me borrow theirs.  No luck.  (I never have any help via Facebook.  I was without telephone service and put a request out for someone to please report my line out....no one could take five minutes to do it.  Needless to say I contemplate the usage of the word "friends" on Facebook now days.)  I really don't want to fold the clothes on tables but it looks like that will be my only route.

I also cannot stand when someone tries to haggle at a yard sale.  Seriously, I keep my prices very low (twenty-five cents to ten dollars for a large working electronic) yet someone or some group will think that is an opportunity to haggle.  Guess what - I'm not a used car salesman, this isn't an auction, so either you pay the flippin' buck or you wait til Goodwill gets it and sales the shirt for $3.75.  (Yes sometimes I lose my cool)...

I want my hallway back....I have this formation called Mt. St. Yard Sale and it needs to erode on down.

2.  Birthdays!

Yesterday was my uncle's birthday.  I think he is sixty-five.  He could be sixty-six.  Oh lets just go with sixty-five a good rule of thumb to go with the lower number!  His birthday signifies the beginning of what I refer to as "birthday season".  Your family may also have a cluster of months where it seems all the babies were born.  The big time for our family is September.  In that one month alone we have five birthdays.  It starts with my brother's and ends with my grandma's (or is it my aunt's...hmmm I always get those close together mixed up).

I am responsible for two of the upcoming birthdays.  Little Man turns 1 on the 24th of August and my Little Diva turns 6 on the 4th of September.  I'm doing the dual birthday party this year.  All I can think of is
Decorations
Food
Invites
Gifts (oh gosh I convulse as I think about the potential of ugly clothes and crappy toys)

I have created the invites and I want them going out next week.  Everything else needs more planning. Eeek!

I did get this awesome recipe I will be making for the party!  This is a great blog called Back For Seconds you should totally check it out.  Your taste buds will thank us both!!!

3.  A BIG BAD attitude problem

So my soon to be six year old has a horrible attitude issue.  I blamed it on the lack of sleep she gets on the weekends.  Now I'm seeing it may be more.  I think it is her age.  I think that the tween years start early.

She's constantly wanting to be in control and make her own decisions.  I give her opportunities to do that.  I let her pick her clothes out for the day, her dinner when I want the kids fed before the parents, play time activities, etc.  I thought I was doing a good job at letting her have a bit more independence but this kid is getting a bad case of the attitude-in-need-of-adjustment syndrome.

I'm not a spanking kind of mom.  I don't see where it works at all for my kid.  She could care less if she gets a ten second paddle.  It doesn't phase her.  (I heard you say you aren't doing it hard enough....shut it)  I can take away things but she ends up creating something to take its place.  Her imagination is grade A which is a blessing and sometimes for me - a curse.

Friends say it is summer boredom and once school starts she'll be a different kid.  They say the boredom of summer will go away and she'll be stimulated and feel better.   I like to think they are right.

Just know I don't make monsters.  I try really hard to raise good, smart, well rounded and adjusted kids....sometimes they pick things up on their own though.  God help us.
