Birthday Post 1A

Well it is officially August!  The summer is getting closer to a close - sadness fills the air - well it does in Brownie World however there's no time to really be sad with all we have going on this month!
My little girl starts kindergarten....
My little guy turns one....
Sniff sniff!

I figured I'd get the birthday blogs started today.  Birthdays are such wonderful events!  Especially when they are our little babies big days.  First birthdays are monumental in that you actually did an alright job at your first year of raising a bambino.  You used the right diapers and fed them the correct nutrition.  You learned to make it on scant amounts of sleep and you found out why coffee is a necessary evil.  You learned that the media's ideas of parenthood and reality's are totally different beasts.  Sure, we love to see the babies go head first into their cakes but know that cake is for you too.

What is the best part of birthdays?  Duh, presents.  So here's blog post 1A on my birthday journey this year.

Since my little guy celebrates his birthday first (Aug. 24th ) I am highlighting some ideas for presents for him.  I don't expect any guests to really pay attention to this, it is more of a what is a good idea for a guy's (my baby boy) first birthday.

Let me be blunt - first birthdays are one of the cheapest birthdays you will ever have with your child.  Babies care more about wrapping paper, boxes, and bags than they ever will about what is wrapped up.  Embrace that.  You'll thank me for that tip when they are six and all they want costs over $150 a piece.

Toys, toys, toys.

When my daughter turned one she got over loaded with toys.  I am not kidding you! I had my own Santa's Toy Land going on.  Whew glad that's behind us.  With Little Man I want him to get great toys but not so many that we feel the need to wear jingle bells and pointy shoes.

I scanned the Toys R Us (who else, right?) website and found these great toys and learning aides.  They can be found at the larger box stores as well!

Little Tykes Gas N Go Mower - because little boys like to do what daddy does right?

Teach My Baby - learning words set (Toys R Us and Walmart have this).  I am all about my kids learning and parent-child education interaction.  This looks like a great kit to get those verbal skills going with my little guy.  (Did you know boys are generally delayed in speech as compared to little ladies?  Yep its true!)

Disney Baby Sing Along Choo Choo - my daughter had something similar to this and she adored it, I can only imagine little bro would like it too.

I Love You Stinky Face - I'm all for all kinds of books for my kids.  I started my daughter with books extremely early and she loves to read and practice writing her own books now.  I figured any little guy would love a book with this title (plus its {Scholastic} and I love Scholastic!)

LeapFrog Touch Magic Counting Train - Reading, writing, and math!  See my correlation?  LeapFrog is an awesome company for educational toys.  My daughter had tons of LeapFrog activity sets and they got terrific use.

Remember at your baby shower how you were loaded down with essentials like bottles, diapers, wipes, lotions, soaps, etc?  I would love to get more cases of diapers (size 4, Huggies) or wipes (any brand), lotions and soaps (Johnson's, Baby Magic, Up & Up, Parent's Choice...)

When the first birthday rolls around so much is focused on the cutie pie that the necessities get put on the back burner.  Trust in the fact if you feel led to purchase a case of Huggies Size 4 diapers my son will have a glorious time playing in the box they came in.

Ok now that that PSA is over....here's some other great ideas for the first birthday!  Feeding and bathing style!

Munchkin Snap n Lock 10oz Cups - all babies take to a different sippy cup it seems.  My little guy loves Avent and Munchkin.  I generally grab a Munchkin one because its a bit cheaper than the Avent.

Skip Hop Mate Stay Put Mat, Plate & Utensil Set - as the kid gets older he's going to want to do more self feeding with utensils and more redecorating the kitchen with his nutrition.  I love a plate that isn't movable for tiny hands.

Munchkin Foam Bath Learning Toys for Boys - Foam and the tub magical I tell ya.  Much better than rubber duckies that get nasty  build up inside the rubber - stinky ducks!

Lastly, clothing (what every kid over the age of 2 dreads).

I must tell you I love {Carter's} clothing for my kids.  Carter's knows how to make good apparel for babies and kids.  It seems like our Carter's stuff really repels stains and holds up through an ungodly amount of washes.  So its not surprising that I would pick clothing from Carters.com for my little guy.

Considering his growth I imagine all his clothing will need to be 24 months.

Carter's Long Sleeve Front Button Flannel Plaid Shirt
Carter's 3 Pack Ribbed Socks
Carter's 2 Piece Pant Outfit
Carter's Character Hat & Mittens
Carter's 2 Piece Micro Fleece Pajamas
Carter's Pull on Denim Pants
Carter's 1/2 zip Pull Over

What are your favorite gift ideas for a one year old?
