2.10.13 Mommy's Morning Getaway Day!
********************************
So I did it.
Something had been on my mind for a while and I went ahead just did it.
My gracious the responses I got from pulling the plug.
My experience without Facebook: The first 36 hours.
*********************************
I have learned so much about our pop culture and societal "norms" in the last 36 hours than I ever could have imagined I would have by doing something so simple.
Here's the back story and the front story.
*********************************
A long time ago before the 2000's hit the teens, I joined an up and coming social network for other college kids like me. In order to join you had to have a school email - meaning .edu on the end.
It was ok at first and then it became pretty fun. Where would we be headed out to on that random Tuesday night? Check FB to see what is going on. What is up in the Boro on a random Thursday night? Check FB! What are my Raleighwood buddies into? Check FB! Is she really dating him now? Check FB! Did she seriously pledge that soro? Check FB!
Then Facebook became open to people who weren't with an .edu email address. Suddenly, I'm getting friend requests from people I haven't seen since third grade. Oh well that's ok lets see what they are doing.
Eventually the day came that your great aunt, mom, and second grade teacher befriended you.
As you got a little older your friend lists may have changed a bit. From "PARTY AT FH TONIGHT" to "Got my first job! Going to celebrate at Olde Bar!" to "He put a ring on it!" and then came the photos of new homes, new dogs, new recipes, a growing belly, a new baby. There were also times of sorrow mixed in - "my dad has cancer please pray" "please refrain from commenting and posting on this page there was no heart beat at our last appointment"......
It started with the games for me. I never did but a few Words With Friends and a couple SongPop (awesomest game ever people). The constant invitations were annoying. The constant feeds were annoying. I would block them out and they would still pop up. Yes it was a small annoyance but the little things all roll into a ball called the big thing.
Then came a privacy issue here and there. When I put restrictions and blocks and thought I was controlling my FB privacy I always knew I probably had no control at all when it came down to the nitty gritty. Advertising, Big Brother, and everything else that wants to see you are going to see you no matter what blocks you put up.
Next was the biggest revelation or epiphany - Facebook was eating my time and salt. I would get up and fix coffee only to wait on the coffee by scanning the posts. Most of it was stuff I didn't care about but I did enjoy all the fun pictures of friends and their kids. It would be waiting for the coffee to brew that I'd pull it up. Then waiting for my kid to be done at school. Then while eating lunch I'd browse it. At lunch with my husband - we were both on our phones looking at it. It was slowly sucking the life out of the posters and commentors and my cell phone and.....well it was sucking the true social life out of me.
I decided a few weeks ago it had to stop. The it being me. I was giving five minutes here and there that I could be using to do something that was actually fun or made me use my brain.
I took a FB free weekend - best thing ever.
****************************
There are some issues with our culture. Personal feeling here: Facebook has made those socia issues much greater. The biggest issue is - gossip! Let me admit I'm a sinner I like gossip. Facebook makes it too easy though. A lot of people post some very intimate stuff on there and I'm not sure why - but I have ideas (attention, drama, self loathing). If I get brutally honest - I don't want to see the drama or hear the "woe is me" or fall into their pit for attention.
I am lucky and blessed to say that my marriage is good, my kids are healthy, my house is steady, my bank account sucks, my friends are beautiful, my family is fine. If I need a confidence boost I seriously do not want to be able to point and click and see your personal struggle to say - well I'm good to go or at least I'm not them.
If your heart is bleeding and you need to confide in someone - find someone - not 1200 people you do not know or 1200 people you think give a rat's long tail - to talk to.
Another issue: we are losing connections - true human connections. Computers are great but kids need to know how to carry on real live face to face conversations and now adults need to re learn those skills. It is also time we start using these hands to hold pens and pencils. (I believe your postal service would appreciate it too). Facebook is helping slowly strip away those bare bones basics of interpersonal skills. (So is Twitter and text, I know!)
Can you imagine our world in another twenty to thirty years when these kids who think that text lingo is proper is English? What about when they need to be in a face to face meeting but decide Face Time is the way to do it because they aren't comfortable being in the same room as another person. Face it people this is a real issue.
The last issue for now: Modesty. I saw that picture you put up in your birthday suit. It looks like Playboy won't be calling but your mama will. I started seeing some stuff I didn't want to. If I did I'd go visit that club where you take your own alcohol in. I also don't want to see a mother posting pictures of herself getting trashed with half of her clothes on. People disrepect themselves - let them do that in private I don't want to see it at all.
I guess I am a prude. I heard Taylor Swift is one too - I'm just connecting with my twenty something, tall blonde billowy self people....ha!
***************************
When I posted I was deleting my account the whole reason behind the deletion came up on the screen. Someone I was FB friends with - who I went to high school with but have not actually had a conversation with in probably 15 years - commented GOOD RIDDANCE! And made some other snide remarks. This guy had never sent a message or commented on any post I had had since Facebook allowed non .edu addresses to sign up (he didn't go to college but that's beside the point), I never once saw a post of his in nearly 10 years of having an account, and all of a sudden he's on my post shooting little word bullets at me. <ping ping ping> After I privately asked what was up he said he was just joking around.
So that brought up another point. It is easy to add a friend and accept a friend request but is it someone you really care to connect with? Seriously, think about it. Is it someone you really want to strike up an old b.s. session with? If its not then why do you say sure I'll be your friend -when you have no plans on ever talking to or posting with that person? Its because your nosey?
I just don't want to be apart of that anymore.
*****************************
I decided to go ahead and pull the Facebook plug. It was very easy - "Deactivate the account".
I then let my closer FB friends know in a mass text that I wasn't on but they could email or text or call me.
My phone lit up like a Christmas tree.
******************************
YOU DID WHAT?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
OMG!
THIS IS TEMPORARY RIGHT?
YOU'RE BRAVE!
But, why?
We'll take these one by one:
You did what?
Well I am not on Facebook anymore. I deactivated my account.
Are you kidding me?
No. Go look for me, I'm not there.
OMG!
Oh my God - what?
This is temporary right?
No,I think I may stick with it. But I am human I may decide later I need to go back....24 hours out I'm good though.
You're brave!
Really? Explain. I mean did I secretly give up my American citizenship by disconnecting from the Book de Face?
But why?
Read this blog post mom.
I think all those responses were warranted by this: in our lingo Facebook and Internet have became synonomous.
Guess what - OMG they are not.
I still use the internet, I have not switched over to Amish (not yet...just kidding). Hello, you are reading this blog!
I still Instagram and Pinterest (when I remember its around) and I still tweet, I just don't do the big blue and white F.
***************************
You're going backwards.
I heard that. I heard a good stance on how the here and now and the future are all FB-esque communication. Well if that's the case I'm just going to stick it out in my lone boat (probably a canoe from back in the days before motors, Amish remember?)
I think, however, I am going forward.
But what if you need it for your kids?
Are phones going away any time soon and no one cared to inform me via Facebook before I left? I think we'll be ok.
*****************************
So here we go beginning the next 24 without the biggest social network of its time. I think I'll be ok.
Some of my blog readers may be left behind because they were relying on my FB posts of the blog being up. Feel free to share this on your FB page if you want. If not that's cool too.
*****************************
Until we meet again via the internet and not FB -
Brownie
Disclaimer: This is just my ponderings on Social Media and not anyone else's. I'm not bashing the FB it is just not my choice anymore for connecting. Thanks guys!

5:30am on a Saturday
2.9.13 Happy Birthday Mammaw Della!
I was up at 5:30am - two reasons for this early rising on a Saturday morning when I could have slept until the baby woke me up....
1. I couldn't breathe (allergies)
2. I had to pee (should have before bed)
3. I'm taking my conceal to carry class today and I'm thinking my gun is going to jam up as I'm doing the shooting portion.
So here I am, nearly an hour later drinking coffee and blogging before I dare get ready for the day.
********************************
You see my date note - and I'm thinking I'll post twice today so you'll see it twice - today my grandma would have been 80 years old.
I close my eyes and see her - white hair in perfect placement on her head, porcelain and flawless skin, grey blue eyes, Barbie pink lips, dress pants (every day), and a nice blouse. I start to tear up - I miss her.
It has been 8 years and I still get choked up when I think about her.
She was one of my "centers" as a young girl. I spent endless amounts of time with her from about two years old to sixteen years old. Weekend eating popcorn and watching Who's The Boss and Growing Pains and Life Goes On. Sunday mornings chewing gum and writing on the bulletin together at church. Countless trips to a little Walmart store to get ICEEs, the dime store to get crayons, Wendy's to get double bacon cheeseburgers. Hours that would account for years of eating in her kitchen - all that good southern comfort food only she could fix right. Trips to the mountains. I smile because all my memories are good. I cannot remember one bad memory that involves her except the last memory - the last memory that seems so tainted.
The calls on my cell phone at 2am, 4am, 5am - all missed where my dad was speaking in a tone I didn't readily understand but then again I did...."Call me." "______ call me as soon as you get this." "You need to call me" - Finally at 7am I dialed his number and I didn't get a greeting of hello, hey there, what are you doing, where are you at? My greeting was, "Brownie, Mammaw died." I fell to the ground, my brain not totally processing the words and my emotions busting out of every capillary in my body. No, what, why, how, where, no, no, NO, NO, NO.
My last memories of her fell over three days. A drive back to my hometown. I was dazed and singing to a CD my friend had burned me. I wanted to get home so fast but I realized as I drove - getting home faster means getting home to a house where she is no longer sitting and waiting on me. Getting home fast means I'm going to sit in her kitchen and she won't be at the stove top. Getting home fast means no more sitting in the front yard chatting and watching cars go by. To hell with getting home fast.
My lead foot was feather light.
I started talking to God. He didn't hear from me a lot back then. He was a figment of the imagination in my book. I was mean to Him. I said things that were so bad, so cruel, so human. "You suck. I hate you. Why did you do this? F you."
Then as the tears filled my eyes on the side of Interstate 40 I pulled over to blue lights behind me. A State Trooper - a big monster of a man - I rolled down my window in tears, sobbing.
"You aren't crying because I'm at your window. You're crying for another reason." That's what he said to me. I was expecting a harsh - DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WERE DOING WRONG?
I just looked at him and cried harder and more uncontrollably.
"I'm sorry. My grandma died and I'm on my way to __________ to be with my family. I'm sorry."
"You need to stay off the road and let yourself get back together in one piece. You were going too slow for the traffic. I'll stay parked behind you. You'll be ok. Just pull yourself together and get home safe."
It hit me later....
The young twenty something who was bulletproof and spent fifteen minutes telling God what a piece of crap He was - was put in her place by a trooper who just stopped her to see if she was ok....she was going too slow.
I had never heard of anyone truly being stopped for going too slow.
I cussed him and he sent someone to check on me. Someone to show me in some odd DOT/DMT approved way that I was ok and would be ok.
Those blue lights flashed behind me as I took my time straightening myself up and wiping my snotty nose.
Thinking about my mammaw - she'd probably say the same thing - "You'll be ok. Just pull yourself together and get home safe."
*****************************
Her death was the begining of a healing and understanding process in my soul that continues. Her life was precious and amazing to me. She was a huge force of love and care for a growing girl.
Today as I wish that she could still be here to celebrate my children and love on them - I realize that they can see her in me - my love for planting, my adoration for cooking, my constant housework (eeek), my faith.
Today I celebrate her.

He Said Mama
2.8.13 The last Friday I'll be excited over until March.
I'm typing on my ottoman while looking at the big ball of orange in the sky. Ahhhhh I love that big ball of orange.
I also love the fact my little dude's first word is Mama. He started saying it a couple weeks ago but it was more of a sound to him than a word. Then today as we were getting ready for breakfast he looked at me and said it clear as a sunny day - "Mama". Yep he knows me.
The first word is a big deal. The first word and making the connection between the word and the person, place, or thing is a huge deal. Cognitive development....big big deal.

It also signals something else. From this point on he knows how to catch my attention. He suddenly has the power that just one little word can give a person. He will use that simple two syllable word to signify hunger, anger, tiredness, happiness, joy, and being upset. It will be his word for emergency and his word for shear happiness.
That first word is a big deal.
*************************************
What is your weekend holding for you? I will be going to (hopefully) gain my conceal to carry license. I'm not a gun freak but I do have a few and I can use them in the event of someone threatening harm on my family's wellbeing.
I don't want to blog too much on this topic. I will just say this - I wish the fantasy land of a safe world was true. However, it is not. If you are a person who says - "There will never be a gun in my house" - you need to realize that unfortunately, yes there may be a gun in your house one day and if you cannot properly protect your family you may take your last breath as the bullet flies toward your person or worse someone you love.
I pray I never have to use a gun in any situation such as that. I hope it continues to be just for the occassional chicken coop theif or distempered woodland creature or random bad snake.
*************************************
I love my Fridays with my babies. We have a fun schedule of little things we do each Friday that makes it an enjoyable day. Better enjoy these while they last - looking at my little girl it feels like it was just a week or so ago that she said her first word. Now she's doing math and writing worksheets fantasizing about Kindergarten.
*************************************
Soak this weekend up.
Next week we'll have a bunch of recipes and some lovey dovey crap too.

Rainy ramblings
2.7.13 Looks like rain.
My hair is back to blonde. It's a great day. I am so happy. Isn't it crazy how something as small as the hair on your head can make you feel fabulous? Thanks to Jen for making me feel great! I made a promise to keep my hair appointments up.
As I get a bit older I get a bit more silver topped - if ya catch me. I started growing some silver strands in my early twenties. I imagine if I let me my hair go natural today it would be 50% grey.
I like grey hair....on other people.
Grey signifies a lot. Wisdom gained from passing years....old cells.....advanced age. Some people rock it so very well and it just looks beautiful. Others look like a hot mess with half black, a quarter yellow gold, and a quarter grey hairs adorning their scalp. Sometimes those with grey try every color on the department store Ms. Clairol aisle to hide their grey and thus they have an interesting animal pelt decorating the top of their scalp. I often see these pelts falling into the shape of a mullet when I visit my local mass retailer.
Epic - a silver mullet.
Since I'm not numerically ready for silver hairs I'll be keeping a committment to keeping the hair blonde. I figure every 8-10 weeks I'll be in to get my anti grey on. Over the summer the chlorine, salt and sun will do most of the work but when the beauty of summer starts to dwindle I'll be back in the chair.
I can't afford botox so I'll just continue to blonde-ox.
************************
Three messages from yesterday enjoyed my jump to salmon patties. HA! The connection was lowering the BP with heart healthy omegas as found in salmon.
************************
I am happy to announce that Brownie World now has NEW bath towels and wash cloths. This is a big freakin' deal people. We have been using the same ones we got upon our marriage many moons ago. They held up wonderfully (so you probably can't find them anymore....if you like something it will be discontinued, count on that one). But lately they met some bleach. Then some frayed edges. Then some swiss cheese styling hit them.
My pretty blue towels became - white and pink tye dyed messes.
Today some will become cleaning cloths. Others that are salvagable will be put away for those "oh smack didn't wash towels" evenings.
The new towels are white. I will no longer purchase any linens that are of any color of the rainbow. I like bleach way too much. When you have kids you end up using bleach a little more than ever before in your life. So between the "lets play in mommy's make up" and the "lets paint the playroom and our bodies" and the "mom the baby peed in the bed" - white it is my loves.
**************************
I scored a London Broil at the local Food Lion for $5. That's a great deal. I am so freaking proud of that. Now to find a good recipe to whip up, devour and share!!!
I heard Hard Rock Cafe had a killer recipe for them.
If you have one to share please do. The comments section can be used on this blog. You can toss in a recipe or tip of your own or just comment there. If you prefer privacy just keep emailing.
And here is a Valentine question for you. What does a sexy recipe consist of? I hear people talk about sexy recipes and I am just lost. Is it the aphrodisiac of chocolate, oysters, creme, wine? Let me be blunt - recipes are not sexy to me. I mean if romance was "And now a quarter cup of sherry" then I'd be reading a lot of smut daily.
**************************
You know what really blows? A baby with what seems to be a really bad cold. We've been dealing with that here in Brownie World. Yesterday I had had enough and we went to see the NP. Turns out the child is mine and has passed the test to see if he truly is a member of this family - we left with Zyrtec.
Last night we actually slept past 3am. And the reason why? Not the Zyrtec but the Little Remedies For Noses spray. Best stuff ever!
***************************
I am missing a dear friend of mine today. We cannot seem to work out anything with our schedules to gab. Our daily routines are very different yet very similar. I love her dearly - we have to get serious about a date....and now I'm staring at my calendar. We had mentioned getting together in February but look guys - February is nearing the mid month period and it looks like March would be a safer time.
Always remember to make time for your friends and write it in stone. Its good for your heart.
****************************
Did you hear about the tsunami that hit those small islands the other day? Well somehow it also found its way to my home and made a disaster of my house. I'm not kidding. This place looks like a huge disaster zone.
The great thing about having a five year old is they can labor away. She has a detailed set of step by step cleaning directions for a few rooms. She also has a fun little surprise awaiting her as soon as she completes her tasks. Actually its a rocking surprise. Yeah, I'll share later.
*****************************
A few of you asked about Cathy Cat. She is now back outside. I couldn't handle her. She is at home in my husband's workshop where she has a nice bed and guards our chicken feed from furry little Disneyesque creatures. She also is probably with children....considering I caught her in the act with Garfield. Let me just say that is the most disgusting thing ever - to stumble upon some animals getting their procreation on. I have seen a lot of animals just go to town - goats, cows, dogs, cats, chickens, insects and every time I'm like "good grief find a bush to hide behind". My five year old has also witnessed it and no I didn't explain it (like I probably should have if I was a complete and total lets go into detail with a small child weirdo). I just say "well they are married now". Remind me to correct that when she's older so she isn't really warped.
******************************
I hope you guys have a terrific Thursday. Treat yourself today....I did.

Last night we actually slept past 3am. And the reason why? Not the Zyrtec but the Little Remedies For Noses spray. Best stuff ever!

I hope you guys have a terrific Thursday. Treat yourself today....I did.

Crazy + Mean
2.6.13 Hair day
Today I am in love with.....sanity.
Disclaimer: I am not wearing kid gloves on this post. If it pisses you off or offends you I prescribe a good dose of get-over-yourself and a swift kick to the tail bone.

I have had some experiences with the "not so normal" this week. I know normal is...well a relative word but we understand the boundaries around the general consensus of what normal is. A few encounters this week with other members of the human race have showed me what its like outside the boundaries set by the idea of normal.
Trust - we are all just one police car ride away from being locked away in an asylum. We never know when our trusty noodles will have something occur that makes us go Olympic diving into a wading pool and we pray we never ever experience those feelings. I am not putting down or making light of insanity. Ok maybe trying to make a bit of light of it but hell that's me you guys - I make fun of stuff. So let me introduce my number one adjective.
I'm sure somebody has called me crazy. That's fine. I know I have a clean bill of mental health (as far as my doctor is concerned). I don't hear voices (or do I? Oh wait I forgot to press end on the phone...ha!). I don't think I'm the Queen of England (but am the Queen of Brownie Land -complete with unicorns and pegasus! Remember my 5 year old!). I don't cut myself (except when improperly handling my Ninja - the juicer - not the cool Asian fighter in the basement). I don't want to drive to the ocean and see if my car will change into a boat. I don't want to hurt anyone or myself. I don't want to stay in bed and disconnect from the world.
I am blessed with some mental health. Thank ya Jesus.
My heart aches for those who battle mental disease and disorder. Whether they are fighting a mild depression or are living with schizophrenia - I pray to God I never ever feel their pain first hand and I hope they remain safe and well cared for.
The adjective that I have found people describe me with is mean.
Yes, I am apparently a very mean person.
The first time someone actually called me out as mean I think I was 14. I really don't know what I did - being honest here. I pretty much kept to myself and my own business and maybe was shy and that got misconstrued as being mean.
This description of me continued to plaster itself upon my head....it still does. I'm one Mean Brownie.
I've never really done anything that I can think of to gain this title. I'm not a fighter or brawler. I'm not out jumping fences to punch people out. I don't kill pets or pinch babies. I don't trip the elderly. But I do have this hole on my face that doesn't have the best strainer on it. Instead of just the water being drained off the noodles it generally all comes spewing out of the pot.
Yes, I have cussed people up one side and down the other. I'm not proud of that flaw I have. But sometimes the Jesus shirt gets turned inside out and Mean Brownie Spawn of Satan decides to blow fire on people. It hasn't happened in a very long time. As I have gotten a tad bit older I am realizing I can harness the hole on my mouth and the blood pressure.
I will tell you that harness has been one tough cookie to handle in the past few days.
When mean meets crazy -you get something you cannot describe with words.
**************************
I believe God, Allah, the Universe introduces us to people to better us - make us smarter, make us more understanding, more empathetic, more aware of ourselves, etc.
Well thank ya Jesus, you introduced me to Crazy and I now see some of the things I was questioning about my parenting and self need not be questioned any further. I asked for an answer or a sign and buddy you gave it.
**************************
I met a person. This person seemed a little broken down and in need of some time. So I thought why not extend the olive branch and offer them some "time" by taking on their child(ren) for a few hours so they can shower.
My heart was in the right place! Yes - see I'm not a mean soul.
So we worked it out.
I didn't really know this person from Adam. But was willing to help out another mumsy. Oh my.
After a good deed gone well bad - I found myself sitting across from someone with more issues than Time Magazine.
The crazy was a type of crazy that Dr. Phil would be baffled over. In the course of about thirty minutes this poor soul across from me had blatantly told me lie after lie. This poor soul was spewing the most confusing demonstration of conversation I have ever in my life sat through. Let me tell you I have had some weird conversations. I had a lot of drug loving friends in college and they gave me some interesting conversational moments that made no sense but compared to this person (I just felt I was helping a bit by relieving from mom duties for a couple hours)......those conversations from college were totally collegiate in all aspects of being intelligent and congruent.
How did you know she was lying? She would spew a lie and within ten minutes totally contradict with truth the lie she had spewed. But that wasn't all the recipe for this batch of crazy. She couldn't let me talk. I would start a sentence, be two words in, and she would take over with a random rambling from her brain. She also wanted to know the lay out of my home and then wanted a "drug addicted" friend to come by MY HOME.
Disclaimer: IF you're hooked on drugs I am sorry. You need help. You need control. Get someone to help your tail before your tail is in the ground.
Long story short I spent over an hour seeing why psychology never interested me and why being a pyschiatric doctor was never on my path.
I heard the praises of certain medicines by this person and reasoned that if they are on those medications they are on the incorrect dosage or they just use them as decoration in a cabinet.
Within moments of the sit down time I was deemed a best friend and was asked when we could go on vacation.
Then I learned something about me. Mean may be totally fitting. As this person continually constructed odd ramblings and made uncomfortable comments and continued to lie I began to feel - angry, mad, upset. It was about to rear itself into being mean. I excused myself from the room and took a moment to cool down Mean Brownie.
Mean Brownie was ready to attack. She was ready to speak French. She was ready to find her soccer foot and kick some tail out. Mean Brownie was rising up fast. Mean Brownie also got pushed down really fast by Level Headed Brownie.
I prayed - "God get this psycho out of my home and please let me be a good person."
Well he rescued me - but I had two extra set of pitter patters in my house.
A two hour date turned into a nearly 4 hour one.
When Crazy Betty returned (with friends) Mean Brownie came out - just a tad bit. "I'm glad you're her I have to head out myself. Please go ahead and get your children. We'll see you another time."
Then came the part I had been waiting for... the let me invite you over. I quickly and cleanly shot it down - nicely.
My heart ached as they left. It ached that someone could be that out of control with themselves. It ached for the kids, they were good kids. What were they living in? I felt bad.
"God, don't let me be a really mean person."
I think I hear him whisper - "You did good. I'm proud. Breathe and move on."
*****************************
God then decided I didn't have enough on my fun time agenda of dealing with crazies. So he paired me up with a bad mom. I don't normally let that title run out of my mouth because I constantly negatively critique myself but good gosh almighty my child is my child and not my ruler.
I quickly was placed in a situation that reassured me I may not be Super Nanny but I sure as heck am a good mama and I'm raising a child who is respectful and kind. I strive to have a kid that the teachers say they would love to have in their classroom and not say "Oh my lord not that child!!!!"
IF any of you mamas out there are raising little snide, rude, stuck up, disrepectful brats you better get that crumb cruncher in line and STAT. It is time to take them off your ninny and put them out in the real world so they can learn that no they aren't always cute and they don't always get their way. Life will be a lot easier if they learn that at 2, 3, and 4 than if they have to learn it later in life.
Crazy mamas - get a grip.
My kids aren't perfect and I know it. They embarass me but they don't get away with it. Life isn't always roses and daffodils so don't lie to your children and make them think it is. Teach them right from wrong, left from right, and up from down. Teach them how to be grateful and that yes honey does catch more butterflies than vinegar. Be accountable for your spawn.
Crazy mamas breed crazy babies unless they get in check.
Maybe this is where Mean Brownie comes from - being dirty honest.
********************************
Today I am thankful and in love with my mommy friends who, like me, have a healthy dose of crazy going on and who worry about the way they are raising their kids. The ones who strive to raise a kid worth their salt.
You mamas rock.
Mean Brownie says so.

Salmon Patties are a southern favorite here's my recipe:
1can salmon
2 eggs beaten
S&P to taste
1 onion chopped
Breadcrumbs of your choice 1 1/4 cups
Use a spoon to help locate any bones and remove. If you want to eat them you can but chop them in a food processor first.
Place the salmon in a bowl with other ingredients.
Stir together
Make into patties - about 12.
Place in a pan and cook until a nice golden brown.
Heart healthy and yummy!
If you're mean it will help an BP issues you have.
February is Go Red for Heart Health! Look for the heart on your favorite foods to make heart healthy choices. Also, I prefer Margaret Holmes veggies and she offers a yummy southern style line of canned foods.
Remember - Salmon is good for you and may bring the kitties out. Dispose of any unused salmon in a safe place so animals aren't hurt and you don't stink too bad!

Notes from the laundry pile.
2.4.13 Dog grooming day.
No comments on the Super Felon Bowl. Not a big fan of professional sports these days. They seem a bit rigged and full of dope.
*****************
My little fella has two teefers. My daughter wasn't getting pearly whites until close to 8 months - just proof the second one does grow faster. He also has a cold. Saturday night was rough to say the least between the teeth cutting the gum line and the inability to breathe very well due to snot and boogers clogging the path. Then the drainage caused a cough. Yes it was a lovely trainwreck of trying to get some sleep. But we did and today we're better.
Or are we....
The groundhog saw his shadow and my immunoglobulins saw their allergy friends. Sore throat, runny eyes, stuffy nose, a little drainage...we will be buying our Zyrtec again. Our three month break is over - its ok....
Spring is coming.
******************
Speaking of Spring I bought a new baby this weekend. She's gorgeous. Her name is Zebra. I am a plant junkie, thank my grandmothers for that. She is now hanging out in my kitchen with Flora the other darling girl I saved a few years ago from the evil over waterers at Lowes.
*******************
A note on winter. Yesterday was dashing until we went to target shoot. The sky turned grey and the temperature dropped about 10 degrees and it began to snow. Luckily, it only lasted ten minutes or so before we were able to get warm again.
*******************
I'm looking forward to this week. Tomorrow I have breakfast planned with my sweet Jen. Then later my little princess is having a friend over. Wednesday is the day I will make my transformation back to my real self (ahhhh all hail the salon chair), Saturday I'm going to be a better citizen.
A good week ahead in deed.
*******************
What are you in love with today?
Mine is my DVR. I know that sounds so materialistic but its truth. I am so thankful that the record button on the VCR has been taken to a whole new level and allows me to watch my dirty little habits (currently, Dallas) while I tackle the laundry.
Share your love of the day in the comments if you want to.
********************
I'll have a recipe/dinner idea for you tomorrow and we'll maybe have a topic of blog.
Have a good Monday, you deserve it!
Now I'm off to drool like a St. Bernard wanting his brandy over Christopher Ewing, hot damn!

Girls Night
So last night my husband went play man games while my little princess and I decided to have a girl's night. Everything was her pick:
Dinner - "Salads mom!"
Activities - "Painting our nails and our faces (facials) please"
Movie - Brave
We invited a friend of mine over to join us.
We had a blast. It was wonderful. Yummy salads, bread, and wine - my little girl can really put the wine back let me tell ya (JUST KIDDING). Great conversation - ahhhhh it was perfecto.
Later in the night after our showers/baths and my sweet friend left - we cuddled up on the couch enjoyed blueberry smoothies and popcorn............and didn't make it through the movie.
"Mommy we need to sleep. We need a lot of it."
Perfect night
************
Today is going to be a great day. Once everyone wakes up (guess who is still sleeping) we are headed for breakfast out and then to do some shopping for Super Bowl Sunday.
Later we'll be at the farm doing some de-stressing and prepping for a class we're taking next week. Its a volatile topic so I'm not sure if I will share it on my blog. I'll see if I am led to.
It is a cold day but it is going to be a beautiful one.
I hope you enjoy yours!
************
Our community lost a wonderful, uplifting treasure of a human being yesterday. I didn't really know her too well but I did know her husband (through my dad). This woman was a true beacon of light for so many students, children, and other women. She battled brain cancer for just over a year.
She made her fight public on Facebook. I would find myself reading her posts crying yet smiling and cheering her own in my heart.
She fought with dignity, grace, humility. Her battle was a teaching tool.
This morning I thank God so much for something we rarely think about because many of us are blessed with having the good version of it - our health. We do not know what lies down the road of us physiologically but lets just hope, pray and have faith it will be a continuation of the good health we have been bestowed.
She left behind two daughters and a husband and a million other souls who are so thankful they had Ms. Mary.
Well - I know her smile has met its match - the halo and wings she was gifted upon her arrival.
