Nothing screams summer as much as sitting under a cool tree while the hot sun blazes away from the canopy if green. Sitting in a yard chair with two bowls at your feet --- one full of fresh picked green beans and another awaiting the broken green goodness that it will carry to the water. Beside you the little girl you once were - making comical comments about the current undertaking of breaking the beans she helped pick. Then there is the realization that last summer that was you and this summer you are the teacher....the elder.....the wise one.
Picking and breaking green beans has became a time of reminiscing and teaching. I tell my little girl of summer stories spent in my mammaw's garden, sitting under her weeping tree, trips to Walmart for nothing but icees, and tomato sandwiches.
Summer's heat just seems to offer us the coolest time to share the little bits of yesterday.
