Before you retaliate on that title - keep reading.
This time of year can jade us.
I've heard older people say they don't care for Christmas. They don't get excited and see it as just a headache. The idea of pulling out a Christmas tree is just "too much work" - and I find that to be a bit depressing.
But it also reaffirms Christmas is about children.
When you have a child (or more than one) these seasons are different.
They are exciting.
They are joyful.
They are magic.
Seeing the lights on the tree come on for the first time through a child's eyes is something that I enjoy each year. I am so very blessed to get to watch my children run around like crazed lunatics when we bring the tree into the house. I am enthralled by their smiles and rejoice in their shrill screams when their excitement has them spinning in circles.
Yes, Christmas is for children but it is because of a child that we should all be excited.
Many of those who tell me how much they just don't care for the holidays have children that are decades past the ages of the children I have now. They don't have grands to come over and make cookies with. They don't have little ones to help them put every single ornament on only one section of a six foot tree. They are doing it alone or just not doing it at all.
It is as if they have lost the joy of this time of year.
That breaks my heart.
As the years pass and our children grow; we should not lose our joy that this time of the year brings.
We should celebrate it more and with a new and reaffirmed joy.
The joy that came before lists of toys, trees, and fancy bows.
You know, the joy of that star, that candle that glows in the darkest of night.
What I'm saying is this...
Christmas is about a baby born to all of us. The ones of us who know Him and rely on Him. And even the ones who have yet to know Him and seek Him without making that statement.
Christmas is about a child who was the gift to every man, woman, and other child on this planet.
In that baby that was born in a cave and laid in a trough we were gifted something that our monies will never, ever be able to purchase us.
Joy.
Light in the darkness.
Rest.
This season I challenge us with children to pay a visit to that friend or family member who is not so excited about the season. Visit them with your children and come bearing a fun holiday gift - maybe a little tree that lights up, a basket of goodies, a few songs, whatever you can muster up.
Let them see the Light of the World in your little blessings.
It is what the season is about.
Merry Christmas.
Totally agree!
ReplyDeleteI just wish we already had one! Or at least one on the way. It's depressing that we still aren't pregnant yet....but hey, I'm trying to be positive!
It will happen. Xo
